Grooming your Dog, Part 1: Behavior

Want to groom your dog like a pro? If you want to groom your dog at home, it make take some time, training, and cooperation between you and your dog. You can save some money on a professional groomer and be grooming your dog at home in no time with the following tips:

  • Pick a time when your dog is relaxed.
  • If your dog is not accustomed to being groomed, keep early grooming sessions short (5 to 10 minutes), and then work upwards. This will gradually become routine for your dog.
  • Reward your dog with treats and praise for a successful grooming session.
  • If your pet is especially nervous (around the clippers, or just in general), it might help to have an additional person around with treats on hand. Grooming your pet at home is a good idea if your dog is really nervous.
