November is Pet Diabetes Month! With the growing amount of pet obesity cases in the US, pet diabetes is unfortunately becoming more and more common. If your pet is displaying some of the following traits, it may be time to get him in for a checkup. The sooner your pet is diagnosed, the sooner he can be treated:
• Excessive thirst
• Excessive urination
• Increased hunger
• Blindness
• Weakness
• Lethargy
Risk factors for pet diabetes isn’t just about weight gain. Other things can include age and breed.
Remember, only your veterinarian can confirm a diabetes diagnosis in your pet, but please keep in mind that if it happens to little Fluffy, that it is very treatable. Just make sure he gets in for an appointment as soon as possible. A great resource on pet diabetes is available here: http://www.petdiabetesmonth.com/
