You’ve probably needed to take a trip away from home and your pet at some point in your life and maybe even felt guilty about leaving your little friend behind. Believe it or not, music has been shown to be an effective soothing influence on pets while owners are away. Some pet owners have taken to leaving music playing while they’re gone to help wean pets off of their presence. It helps to have been playing the music around the house while you’re still there so that your pets will associate the music with you. Then when you know you’re not going to be around for a while, you can leave the music playing.
There are even musicians out there who cater to specific animals. Evidently dogs prefer different music than cats, if you ask the experts, so each need their own tunes. We’re not sure you need to take it that far, but certain music has definitely been shown to produce a calming effect on animals just as it does in humans. Here’s a good place to start if you’re interested.
It’s probably easy to spot other times that a little music might make things less stressful for your pet, too. Instead of being an anxiety filled experience, trips to the vet could be a chance to rock out to some killer tunes. People have also reported success when using music to calm pets with a fear of thunder. Just give them a cozy place to be comfortable and turn on the music. Instant thunder replacer.
