Bathing your dog

Everyone with a dog has probably had the experience of needing to give him/her a bath. Here are a few tips for safely bathing your dog:

  • In regards to soap choice, a mild hypoallergenic soap formulated for veterinary use is your best bet. “Veterinary use” means that the soap is formulated to work with a dog’s skin and fur, rather than a human’s. And yes, there’s a difference.
  • Veterinary shampoo is safe to use to bathe your dog about once a week.
  • If you are using a shampoo with medication or insecticide, make sure you follow your vet’s instructions on use.
  • Comb your dog’s coat prior to bathing. A wet, tangled coat will take longer to dry and be more uncomfortable to comb out.

Enjoy your clean dog!
